About Weston-Super-Mare

The water quality is ok, but discolored due to the silt of the Severn estuary. There is also a very large tidal range (10+m) and so this beach can only be surfed 3 hrs either side of high tide. Otherwise there is a very high danger of sinking in the mud. Also look out for the numerous wooden posts placed seemingly at random around the beach by the council. With westerlies with a touch of northerly this gives nice waves approx 1-2m with nice flat areas in between. The south end of the beach is great for this especially at high tide (11+m tides) but is the shallowest so can only be done at high water. There is also a North to South rip which runs at about 1-2 knots. In southerly Uphill makes a great flat area but only 1hr around high tide.
